Flat roofing services — every system, fitted properly

From a leaking garage roof in Walker to a full single-ply specification on a Quayside commercial block, we install and repair every flat roofing system used in the UK. Pick the right one for your building, not whatever's on the van.

The flat roof you fit matters far more than people realise. Get it right and you forget about it for twenty-five years. Get it wrong and you'll be back up on a ladder every winter chasing leaks. This page covers every system we install, who each one suits, what it costs in rough terms and how long it ought to last. If you'd rather just ring us, the number is at the top — call and we'll come and look.

What sort of flat roof do you have right now?

Most domestic flat roofs in Newcastle are one of four types. Built-up felt — three layers of mineral-finished bitumen — was the standard from the 1960s through to the late 1990s and you'll find it on tens of thousands of garages, extensions and dormers across Tyne and Wear. Mastic asphalt still survives on a small number of older industrial properties and pre-war flat roofs. EPDM rubber arrived in the UK in the 1990s and is now the default for new domestic flat roofs. GRP fibreglass took off in the 2000s as a hard-wearing alternative for balconies and small dormers. Commercial buildings are more likely to be on single-ply membrane — Sika Sarnafil, IKO Armourplan or similar — mechanically fixed in large sheets.

You don't always need a like-for-like replacement. A failed felt roof can be overlaid with EPDM at lower cost and longer life. A leaking GRP roof is sometimes better dressed in liquid Kemperol than re-laminated from scratch. Part of what you're paying for in our quote is the judgement call about which approach gives you the longest service life for the least money.

SBS torch-on felt roof being installed

Torch-on felt (SBS)

Three-layer SBS-modified bitumen, fully bonded with a mineral cap sheet. Modern felt is nothing like the 1970s stuff — properly fitted it'll do 20–25 years. Right answer for awkward shapes, chimney upstands and tight detail work.

Diagnosing a flat roof leak

Leak diagnosis & repair

Water rarely enters where it drips inside. We trace the actual leak path, expose the failed detail, patch it permanently and stand by the repair. Same-day call-out for active leaks.

Concrete flat roof being refurbished

Concrete flat roofs

Concrete decks on 1930s–1970s flats and townhouses. Need a properly bonded waterproof layer and good drainage. We'll usually overlay rather than strip — concrete decks are heavy.

How long does the work take?

A typical garage strip-and-replace is one day. A kitchen extension EPDM is two days including all detailing. A torch-on felt re-roof on a 30m² flat is two to three days depending on insulation specification. A commercial single-ply install of around 200m² is usually three to five working days with two fitters. Repairs are normally same-day. We never strip more roof than we can re-cover before sundown — the inside of your building should never get wet during a re-roof, full stop.

What's the warranty?

Smaller repairs carry a 12-month workmanship guarantee — long enough to see them through a winter, which is when most flat roof faults reveal themselves.

What we won't do

We don't fit pitched tile roofs, we don't do chimney rebuilds, we don't do guttering as standalone work and we don't sell materials retail. If you ring us for any of those we'll point you to someone in the area who does. Flat roofs only — that's the entire trade. It's why we're quick, why we're priced right, and why nothing surprises us when we get on the roof.
